Post Flood Update

I have been back in Tanzania for almost a month after the floods receded. This should help with understanding how massive the effect has been in our area. The waters have receded from the high of about 13 feet that covered the main road to our village for several months. They have been doing repairs on the main road (area just after TPC Sugar Plantation up to Msitu Wa Tembo village proper)

Unlike previous years the waters have remained over much of the crop land to one side of the road and there is an extra “river” to the lake. The road is still in horrible condition especially past Msitu Wa Tembo and there is a bridge that got washed away they have not started to replace yet.

As expected, the mosquitos are having a field day. It is difficult to sleep with the buzzing sounds outside the net or really just outside the house. I continue to rack up bites like I never have before. We deal with sick kids on a regular basis as well as teachers dealing with Malaria.

It is a little cooler right now. My guess is upper 80s low 90s during most days and some nights it gets down to 60. This makes it much more comfortable than back in February when it was miserably hot.

We did get together (or most of the staff) one night to celebrate Enifa’s birthday. It was a lot of fun, but typical Tanzania. Started about an hour and half after it was supposed to. Lasted well into night (I left at 11 PM).

I ask everyone to keep praying for the area and Tanzania as a whole as they continue to recover from the floods. In addition our Standard 7 class will be taking their exit exams in Mid September. These are the exams that allow them to enter Secondary School (High School) and can help them get scholarships or acceptance to better Secondary Schools.
