Mwika Integrity School Toilet Facility

Some of my regular readers will remember in September 2023 I did a blog talking about installing a water line for Mwika Integrity school (https://steveandbarnabas.com/2023/09/04/lots-going-on-just-not-the-internet-all-the-time/ ). I have been back there several times and we have helped them with book purchases, installed some playground equipment and I have talked at their graduation ceremony. During the floods that made things here so difficult early in 2024, I had a visitor from Devoted Ministries, Kingdom Builders and Element Church in St. Louis, MS in the area and we were able to get to Mwika but not my school. One common element to visiting a school or facility in Tanzania is they have a list of things they want you to give them money for. It is just part of the culture here. So Darline, the visitor, took their requests back and they decided to tackle the building of a new bathroom facility since the current bathrooms were in such bad shape.

After some stumbling blocks we are finally finished with that project. So I went for the final inspection and take photos. Of interesting note for me was that a group of young girls were visiting from the local government school getting water from the system we installed to Mwika Integrity. They come daily to get water for their school because they don’t have their own dedicated line. So our project serves more than just the orphanage and their school but the local government school as well.

The big news was that the government had inspected the bathroom facilities and removed the school closure notice for next year (something they had not told me about) due to the old bathroom system being unsafe and unsanitary. The new facility has 6 stalls for the boys with urinal trench area and 8 stalls for the girls. The toilets have their own tank and a new septic system to handle the increased use.

The new septic system was difficult to install because they ran into about triple the amount of rock than was expected during excavation.

Since my visit to the school was so close to school ending and Christmas time, I took some suckers for the students and staff.
