International Women’s Day 2023

I have covered the events of the local church celebrating International Women’s day in the past, hence my year stamping this blog title. The overall event was similar in nature to the past with many small skits, singing or testimonies accompanied by the women all getting up going outside to dance in to their seat and then when that segment is over they dance out. Please don’t misunderstand that this is a women only thing, the guys do it on their day as well. It is a Tanzanian thing because I don’t know a single pastor who would want them to do that for every single segment of the church service in a US church.

You can see the first dance in and all the empty chairs. The church here is about 40-60 children, 10-20 teenagers, 10-15 men and 40-60 women on any given Sunday. So Women’s day is really congregation Sunday in a way. Yes that is Norween looking back at me. In a couple of seconds she will be in my lap and then back in her mother’s lap and so on and so forth for the entire 4 hours of the service.

Of special note this year, is that two of our female teachers who also attend this church were in leadership roles. The other major leader I could see was Tumaini (the person not our school) who works with the Compassion program at the church.

This is Enifa, our Baby Class teacher, who lead with Tumaini through many of the skits and talking segments.

This is Neema, one of our newer teachers for science in the Standard classes. She was the soloist for several songs and delivered the message for the service.

Above is a picture from the video below. Tumaini is the third from the right next to Enifa.

Also a quick note that Buttercup (the dog) gave birth to six puppies one day and two more the next day. She and puppies are doing well. She is much happier not to be pregnant in all this heat.
