I have returned to Tumaini (Hope) Evangelistic Pre & Primary School in Kiruani, Tanzani. It has been an interesting year for everyone. After having to return to the USA on the last KLM flight out and documenting the ghost town appearance of the airports, I spent 5 months at home. I learned how to do a presentation online via Facebook Live and OBS software. If you were not one of the 12 people who watched that night you can see it here. After that I removed all mom’s bushes and arranged to grind up the stumps I could not handle with a pick, then got to replant with new smaller bushes. I dug in 4 dry wells to solve some drainage issues around my parents house. I worked on my cooking skills by cooking several dishes from the Wren Circle Cookbook. I even created and perfected my own Caramel Cheesecake using sugar substitutes. I kept up with what was going on in Tanzania, the school and set our next construction project in motion while watiting at home. I went to Gatlinburg to tackle the boulder for my dad. I walked with my dad, Jerry and Paul almost every Saturday for six miles. I thoroughly enjoyed having hot water showers every day and a washing machine to wash my clothes with. I worked on my plastic recycling and got pretty good at making items from melted bottle caps, food containers and K-cups. Even with all that going on, I am glad to be back at the school with all the kids.
Some folks have asked about the airlines and airports. In short Delta did a great job by having empty seats between passengers, kept their great service, boarding in small blocks so passengers could maintain social distance. Airport services were good, but international wing food was not open when I first arrived because hardly anyone was there. I did go back to domestic terminals to get my lunch. KLM talked a lot about what they were doing but honestly they used the one call for all of the economy class forcing us to herd in because they don’t restrict carry on bags so people were carrying multiple suitcases and a bag or two with them. They filled every seat and severely limited flight services.
