Meet our Students: Joan

Joan is one of our younger students at about 4 years of age. She attends with her older sister Precious who is her polar opposite in personalities. Joan is bright, sweet and hard to get to sit down unless she is about to fall asleep. Like the core group around her age, they are hard to get on point and prefer to do their own thing (like most kids their age around the world). I have clocked her attention span around 7-1/2 seconds. She maintains a good grade average, though I hold at that age it should be more check they have accomplished sharing, recognizing their colors etc. But in Tanzania even at that age there has to be a test once a month.

She has mastered the look to the right. Kind of like what now? While she does not smile constantly like her sister does, she does smile when she does not notice the camera or you get her laughing.

Speaking of her older sister, Precious, she is the one most likely to get her to laugh other than her best friends, Princess, Ebenzery, and Brayton. Case in point is this phot with her sister (right) and Josephine (left) cutting up with her.

Joan loved spending time with the Mauldin UMC mission team when they visited in 2019. That meant a lot more people to pay her attention. In her little group it is Princess that gets the most attention because she has an on que smile and Joan is a little more reserved.

Case in point was being chased by all the adults trying to get her to march around the building as part of story time. She had an additional 3 adults to keep from being caught by. Look at that smile when she got to do that.
